The dragon is a powerful and auspicious creature that symbolises strength, vitality, good fortune, and protection. It is associated with the emperor, imperial power, and cosmic forces. Dragons are often depicted as benevolent beings that bring blessings and prosperity.
The ruyi derived its form from the lingzhi mushroom which is loved by chinese cultural for its medicinal purposes which links to longevity. This ornamental object symbolises good wishes, prosperity, and the fulfillment of desires. Its name translates to "as you wish" or "as you desire." The shape of the ruyi is often likened to a scepter or a ceremonial object and is frequently used as a decorative motif in various art forms.
When combined in jade carvings, the dragon and ruyi can convey imperial power and prosperity. The combination of the dragon and ruyi symbolise the fusion of imperial authority (dragon) with the granting of wishes and blessings (ruyi). It might be interpreted as a representation of abundant blessings and prosperity bestowed by cosmic and imperial forces.
